Today I'm thankful for: #1- Teaching Sunday School. Today I taught about Paul's second letter to the Corinthians. The first part of the lesson was all about tribulation - we didn't get to the other sections but that's ok we talked about what we needed to. Here are my favorite verse of the day: 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;"
"Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;" This is how I feel about the world today. All around me there is evil. Things that are meant to distance me from my Father in Heaven but I don't need to be distressed. I may be perplexed but because of Jesus Christ I do not need to be in despair. I'm not persecuted often because of my beliefs but even when I am I am not forsaken. My Lord is always with me. And when I feel beaten down I can be grateful that I'm not destroyed. I felt a power in Paul's words and thought maybe these scriptures would be good ones to memorize so I can bring them to mind when I'm having a hard day.
#2- Kerri including me in her family fun. Kerri's little niece turned one yesterday and Kerri took me along to dinner at her sister's to celebrate. It was fun to get to know Kerri's family a bit more and to just be with people. I like a good quiet evening but Sundays seem so sad and lonely if I spend the whole day at home. Thanks Kerri for letting me tag a long.
#3- Remembering 9-11-01 and being grateful. Today marks ten years from the day that America was attacked by terrorists. This whole past week has been full of pictures and people talking about this tragedy and the upcoming anniversary. It is an event that you never forget where you where or what you were doing. I heard about the attack in my Elementary P.E. class. I didn't watch much footage of what was going on because my apartment didn't have a t.v. I'm kinda glad I didn't watch much because even now the images of that day are so unsettling. Even thousands of miles away you felt unsafe and that the world was so unsure. I remember going to devotional that day and President Bednar had requested that we sing hymn number 124 "Be Still My Soul". I'm sure I'd sung that song before but this is the first time I ever really sang it or let the words penetrate my heart. It was the perfect song to still my heart and soul as news of destruction, hatred, and death surrounded me.
Be still, my soul: The Lord is on thy side;
With patience bear thy cross of grief or pain.
Leave to thy God to order and provide;
In ev'ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: Thy best, thy heav'nly Friend
Thru thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
Be still, my soul: Thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as he has the past.
Thy hope, thy confidence let nothing shake;
All now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: The waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
Be still, my soul: The hour is hast'ning on
When we shall be forever with the Lord,
When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: When change and tears are past,
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

Now ten years later as we as Americans remember that September day when so many innocent lives were lost my soul is still. I know in whom I trust, in whom all things on earth and in heaven are controlled, and whom guides the future just as He has the past. He is my friend who leads me through the trials of life to a safe and Heavenly Home.
#4 - Returning a favor. Tonight I got to pick Preston and Tricia up from the airport. It's nice to have friends who'll let you return a favor when they need help. Both of these friends have dropped me off and picked me up from the airport multiple times. It's always a pleasure for me to get them when they need a ride.
